Paleo, Keto, Low Fodmap Diet: What do They Mean?

You may have heard of Paleo, Keto, and Low Fodmap diets, but do you know what they mean? I've broken them down so you know what they are.

There are so many diet plans out there that it can get pretty confusing on which is which. That’s why I decided to settle down some of the confusion and talk about three different diets. Those three are, paleo, keto, and low fodmap.

A paleo diet is based on what people ate during the Paleolithic era which is over 10,000 years old. Since it’s from that specific era where there weren’t any fast-food chains or processed foods, it’s very limited but natural.

On this diet, you can eat lean meats, vegetables, fish, nuts, seeds, and fruits. This means any foods that came from farming such as grains and dairy are forbidden.

The purpose of this diet is to help you lose weight and maintain a healthy diet since you’re eating all-natural foods that are good for you. It’s a great way to kick processed foods to the curb.

The Ketogenic diet is a low-carb high-fat diet. Our bodies burn through carbs first, so cutting down significantly on how many carbs you take in will force your body to burn through the fat instead.

Typically this diet is recommended for diabetes patients, but it has gained so much popularity that just about everyone is doing it now. Not only can it help you lose weight, but it may benefit people with cancer, Alzheimer’s, and epilepsy.

For the carb lovers out there, it’ll be hard at first, but once you get into it and find different alternatives, you’ll feel good about the choices you make. Now all you have to do is say goodbye to regular pasta and bread and hello to fats and protein.

Low Fodmap

If you have any type of digestive problem, the low fodmap diet can be your savior. This is a very restrictive diet at first. There’s a long list of foods you cut out of your diet, then slowly one by one you start to add certain foods back in. This is to see if there are certain foods that are unknowingly causing you discomfort and upsetting your stomach.

We all deserve to eat worry-free. This can aid in weight loss, but it can also help you identify what foods you’re better off avoiding. You have to keep your body healthy and happy.

These are just three of the many different plans out there. It’s good to be able to break some of them down so we all know what each one means. If you have questions, don’t hesitate to talk to your doctor or a nutritionist to help you figure out which one would work best for your needs and your body.
