The new year is here, and that means setting new years resolution. If you’re like most of us, however, you only stick to your resolutions for about a month or so and then abandon them. It’s okay, we’ve all been there.

Let’s make this year different and stick to our resolutions for the whole year. If you need some tips on how to stick to your resolutions, then keep reading this article!

One Resolution at a Time

You may get a swift burst of motivation and decide to set a bunch of new year resolutions for yourself. Do not do this though, once that swift burst vanishes, you’re going to be overwhelmed and give up before you even had a chance to start.

Start small and simple, choose just one resolution you’ve been wanting to do, and stick to just that. Even when people on social media brag about their list of resolutions. Just ignore them and focus on you and your new year’s resolutions. By choosing one, you’ll feel less overwhelmed, and you can make reasonable adjustments to your life to fit it in.

Be Patient With Yourself

Patience is a virtue, and being patient with yourself through your new year’s resolution is a key factor to sticking to it throughout the year. We need to avoid beating ourselves up over some mistakes or if we skip a day. Life happens, but what’s important is being able to try again the next day. If you remember to be patient with yourself, you’ll have a much easier time sticking to your new year’s resolution and achieving that goal by the end of the year.

It Takes Time

You may have heard the saying that it takes 21 days to form a habit. However, that idea has been proven false. Everybody is different, so just because one person forms a habit within that timeframe doesn’t mean everybody else can. Instead of focusing on how everyone else is doing with their resolutions, focus on yourself and your resolution.

Don’t do it Alone

If you’re the type of person who struggles to stick with new year resolutions by yourself, why not see if any friends or family members care to join? Having somebody else who wants to achieve the same new year’s resolution as you can help you stay on track.

Having somebody with you can greatly boost your motivation to stick with your new year’s resolutions. Also, nobody is more fit to hold you accountable like your friends and family, right?

Journal Your Experiences

If you don’t have any friends or family to do your new year’s resolution with, that’s perfectly okay. Journaling is a great way to feel less lonely on your resolution journey. Being able to write down your thoughts and experiences while working on your resolution is a great motivator. It doesn’t have to be a physical journal either, some great digital journal apps that can help you are, Diaro, Journey, and Day One.

Look Back on Your Progress

Being able to look back on your progress, and thoughts throughout the year will make you realize just how much you’ve achieved. Everybody has moments of doubt, but writing those feelings down can help lift that weight off your shoulders and bring you that extra boost of motivation to help you stick to your new year’s resolutions and help you come out on top.
